Birthday Party Unique Decorating Ideas!!

Birthday parties, particularly those for adults, are a great opportunity to recognize (and embarrass) the ones we love. With this month’s Idea Spot, you can make an occasion memorable using one of our newest and most exciting products: UL Photo Prints!

Whether you’ve had a chance to explore the Photo Prints application yet or not, I bet you can find a good use for this great idea. Here’s what we came up with (click on the pic to see the whole thing):

To begin our design, we first had to determine a suitable photo for our Photo Print. Our birthday party was for a soon-to-be-40-year-old family member, so we rifled through the family photos one afternoon and came up with Spencer in his leisure suit at age 6. Perfect! Once we had scanned our photo*, it only took a moment or two to place our order for a 4’x4’ contour-cut Photo Print.

With our Photo Print out of the way, it was time to spice up the space where our Photo Print would eventually end up. (You may recognize the table and lamp from previous posts. Are you convinced that one wall can provide fun for all kinds of occasions?) Using the Text & Graphics application within MyDesign Suite™, we designed a fun and simple message for our wall with two custom words: “40” (Souvenir, 13”, Caribbean Blue) and “Years” (Liorah 5”, Navy Blue). Then came our “Happy Birthday” message (#16697, Navy Blue), gallantly displayed on the new Uppercase Living Glass Charger ($14.95, #300159). We placed our charger on the table (using its complimentary easel) alongside a big stack of matching birthday gifts.

And that’s it! You can use this idea, or some variation of it, at your next birthday party. It’s sure to be a hit, and it might even encourage a few extra customer orders when the party comes to an end.

*Please note: Many photo shops and camera stores will digitize (scan) photos and, depending on the quality of the digitizing process, can give you a photo that will look great as a Photo Print. However, there are several ways of digitizing a printed photo, so digitizing does not guarantee that your photo will have the same quality as the one taken digitally.

Getting Ready for Christmas? Check this out!!

There are so many completely adorable items in our recently released Idea Catalog: Holiday Edition, but one of my favorites has to be our Shimmer Vinyl. Why? Well, for starters the shimmer is very subtle and subdued—but in a good way. I have one of our holiday expressions, “Happy Holidays” (pg .15) in Shimmer Cranberry and Shimmer Silver up in my office right now and I love how it adds such great texture to the expression. People are always stopping by to take a look at it. In addition to Cranberry and Silver, our shimmer vinyl also comes in Gold and Evergreen. These colors are, of course, great for the holidays, but I can also see them paired with non-holiday expressions. The Gold and Silver Shimmer would be perfect in a little or teen girl’s room, or imagine the Evergreen or Cranberry in any of our sports-themed expressions—there are just so many possibilities!
If you are loving shimmer vinyl as much I am, I know you’ll want to share it. And an easy way to do it is with some really cute and affordable Make & Takes. Just purchase our Shimmer Vinyl Sample Words for $12.95 (Supply Item #200345) and you’ll receive a pack of 80 words (20 each of ho, ho, ho, Joy, Peace, and Believe), that can be transformed into fun and easy projects for your guests. Don’t believe us? Check out some of the ideas our team at the Home Office came up with.

With our sample words you can add a little holiday cheer to just about anything. For proof, check out this charming project, created by applying one sample word to a $1.99 candle and votive.

Looking for a way to display your favorite holiday photos? How about with this darling frame! We simply purchased a clear magnetic frame one clearance for $1.50 (Thank you, Target!) and then inserted some green crinkle scrapbook paper. To make the “ho, ho, ho” border on the bottom, we applied two sample words and then cut an extra “ho” from a third sample word. The finishing touch was a bit of our Trimmings™ Ribbon (Item #300105; $6.95) in black on the top. Now, all that we’re missing is the perfect photo to slide inside.

A message of peace is even better when it arrives in the form of this cute card. To create it, we used red crinkle paper that we cut and folded in half. Then we added a block of green scrapbook paper, a strip of our Trimmings™ Ribbon in black, and finished with our sample word in Gold Shimmer.

Make & Take projects this season don’t have to be holiday-themed. This frame can find itself at home in a teen girl’s room, dorm room, or even in an office with any photo that represents a goal you’re working towards. The frame shown above was purchased for $1.99 and then we simply applied our sample word to the bottom and three Dress-Ups Gems (#Item #300104; $4.95) to the top.

Simple, handmade gifts are always appreciated, and we think these fun (and funky) holidays cards and envelopes are just the thing to give to neighbors, friends, and co-workers. To make them, we purchased a package of 50 colorful, blank cards and envelopes for just $7.99 and then applied one sample word each one.

Other ideas? How about magnets! To create the ones pictured above, we just stopped in at our favorite hardware store where we bought these tiles and a package of magnets. Also pictured above is a gift tag that we created using some white card stock and a little red ribbon.
As you can see, there are so many fun ways to use both our sample words and Shimmer Vinyl. These items are only available until December 7, so place you order today!

The latest Trends in Organization for your and your family!!

Some parents are jumping for joy that the kids will be back in school and others are dreading the homework fights, but inevitably, school is back.

Here are some great ideas to help your household stay organized, inspired and beautiful during the school year.

These chalkboard vinyls are thicker than our regular vinyl and just stick to the wall where ever you want.

How about a chalkboard calendar to post all the school and sport events.

Here's another option for the playroom or your child's room. And yes, the football player is Uppercase Living too! The abc's and 123's are included in the playroom set and you can choose any color for them and use them like they did here or any way you like.

Even one for the kitchen that lets everybody know what's for dinner this week.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the brand new chalk wall sets we have in the new Fall catalog. Every piece is chalk wall vinyl. Adorable!

There are also Stars & Circles and Tags & Tidbits theme packs available.

On all these you can use regular chalk (they come with a few sticks of white chalk) but I love these chalk markers which are less messy and have no dust! You can pick them up at your local craft store.

Teachers will also love these and here are a few other ideas for teachers to decorate their classrooms.

Keep your student inspired at home with something like this...

Happy School Days!!

More fun and unique Stuff!! Clocks!!

I wanted to share a bit about a new product from the 2009 Fall/Winter Idea Catalog that I am completely in love with—the UL Clocks! Ladies, they are so much fun! And what a unique product concept. Let’s face it, what clock can you purchase and then customize in your choice of 45 colors? On top of that, we offer two very different styles, so your customers are sure to find one that fits their taste. For those of you who attended our Convention a few weeks ago, you got to see these super-cute clocks up close on our featured product walls.

Here’s the Traditional Clock pictured in a living room setting, but what’s great about this clock is that the design is so simple that it can fit into almost any room in your house.

And how fun is this? We put it in a playroom setting for Convention, but this funky design isn’t just for the kids. With the right color choice, this clock will fit perfectly in any home with a more modern or contemporary style.
If you’ve been wondering about the difficulty of installing the clock mechanism, it couldn’t be easier. Each clock comes with a set of instructions, and it truly only takes a few minutes to install. In addition, each design has two little dots in the center indicating where you need to insert the screws, so there’s no guessing involved! And at only $39.95, these clocks are sure to be a hot item at your Open Houses this fall. Happy selling!
